Girl injured when family's Labrador attacks

An 8-year-old girl received severe face injuries Friday when her family’s Labrador attacked her, according to Pasco County authorities.

  Rita Crespi I wonder how that dog was being treated. They are such loving, protective animals that I just get the feeling the dog was being abused. Sorry about the little girl but something was definitely wrong there if the animal was behaving aggressively

  Jan Jordan Oh dear are you sure it wasnt a pit bull!!!! Being sarcastic. But sometimes kids do something to unintentionaly hurt a dog or other pet. I am so sorry for her being hurt.

  Jenny Hardoin Unlikely to be rabies if this behavior change happened a few months ago - rabies kills much faster than that. If the dog was not abused, chances are a brain tumor has altered the dog's behavior.

  Paula BethI find it very hard to believe that this Lab attacked a child That is sooooooo very out of character for a Lab. Only if it was injured would it do that. I remember when they blamed St Bernard's for being dangerous and attacking at a child's birthday party. Turned out the kids stuck a pen in the dogs ear and pushed it into it's brain and it went crazy and attacked them. That was found to be the cause only after one of the mom's grabbed a rifle off the fireplace display and shot the dog and the pen was discovered during an autopsy. All the kid's said "they didn't know what had happened". In this case, I think, possibly, the family's other dog, a white Pittbull, might have been agitated and attacked the child but because it might have a past record, of attack, the family said it was the Lab. Don;t know for sure but it sure is out of character for any Lab to attack any child or person.

  Ana Urquiola Alfonso If that Labrador attached the girl, for sure it was been mistreated. Labradors are very gentle and sweet. Or a Labrador mix.

  I will say this though, from my own experience with labs, I am not surprised. I wonder how the dog was being/ had been treated(in case they hadn't had it all its life). But I myself am not surprised by a lab attack.
